Yesterday was a special day! I published a new book, a collection of poems. I would never have done this if it hadn’t been for your encouragement, dear readers. Thanks to your comments, telling me that I should publish my poems in a book, I finally did it 🙂
At first I was a little nervous about it. Sharing my poems in a book? But slowly the idea began to take shape, and now I’m glad I took your advice 😉
Pieces of My Soul
The book is called Pieces of My Soul. Besides some poems that I shared here there are also new poems, thirteen in total. I kept the number small for this first book, and I actually like the number 13 🙂 I think it is a good number.
Thirteen Poems of …?
Love, life, heartbreak, abuse, laughter, loss, even one about our furry four-legged friends, danger, and more; in summary, it’s about obstacles and blessings that life throws at us.
With these poems I hope to bring a small message of comfort and perhaps hope, letting the reader know that no matter what happens, he/she is not alone in this.
A Little Thank You
When I write fiction I always pour a lot of myself in the characters, there is a lot of me in my stories. Poetry, however, may have a lower word count, but it possesses all of the poet’s essence, pure raw emotion, the innermost turned upside down, revealing all.
That can be unnerving sometimes. It was to me the first time I presented a poem in public, a very personal one about someone who had hurt me. After that first time I presented poems at other events, and now there is a book 🙂
There are several people I should thank for guiding me on the path of poetry.
First of all, Dawn Spectre, a friend and an amazing poet who invited me to my first poetry slam. You could say that she got the ball rolling 😉
Javier Zetina, one of my closest friends who rehearsed my poems with me before I presented, and who gave me a lot of help.
You! If you were one of the people who encouraged me to publish, then thank you! As I mentioned before, I would not have thought of it otherwise.
Pieces of My Soul is available as an e-book on Amazon. Soon, the paperback will be out too.
This post is a short one, but how could I not share this news with you? I’m excited, happy, and nervous that it’s finally out!
Wow, well done to you for taking the plunge, especially with poetry, as this form of writing is really about baring your soul to the world out there. It takes a lot of courage and commitment as well as a lot of hard work.
Could you perhaps tell us which segment of the population you are writing for in this book? For instance are you writing for people who need comfort, stress relief or simply for people who love poetry?
Hi Michel,
Very good question! I’m writing for people who love poetry, and also for anyone who has had to deal with hardship in life or known love, a home, and happiness. Since life doesn’t spare anyone from its ups and downs, this collection of poems is for everyone. With these poems I hope to give a messsge of comfort and hope.
Thank you for your comment!
Congratulations on the publishing of your book. The one thing we should know about is ourselves, yet it seems to be one of the hardest things for people to share honestly about. So many people want to either embellish or exaggerate the truth about themselves, whether positive or negative. I’m glad you were able to put yourself into your writing. Although I teach writing, I’ve learned that we write to learn as much as the other way around. Good job. Take care.
Bob
Hi Bob!
I like what you said, that we write to learn as much as the other way round. It is true that many people embellish the truth about themselves, especially on social media. In poetry the real, raw emotions are displayed, which can be nervewrecking for some writers 😉 but it’s also gratifying to share it.
Wow! Publishing a book can be so exciting. I remember when I first published my book on Kindle Amazon, it was super fun as well I couldn’t wait for people to read my book.
Poems are a universally accepted way of reading for some. Especially when they have some deep meaning, and each person is left to interpret their own meaning. Good for you for publishing your poetry book. Imagine all the people who will read your book and the difference you might make in their lives.
Hi Jagi!
Congratulations on your published books too! Each person is indeed left to interpret their own meaning, especially in poetry. Poems can touch someone in many different ways.
Thanks for visiting!
First of all congratulations, hoping that your book will be a success, I think that writing poetry requires a very special talent because it is leaving our feelings exposed in the hope that someone else can understand and see them but in the same perspective at least understand what is inside us.
Hi, Hector!
With poetry you leave indeed your feelings exposed, which is not always an easy thing to do.
