Hello, I am Lila C Duville and I have been living in the beautiful Baja in Mexico for many years. This place is either for you or it isn’t. Some people fall in love at first sight and others leave. There seems to be no in-between. Either you love it or you don’t. I happen to be one of those many people who love this place, made it her home, and who could never leave. I simply love the Baja and I find it such an inspiring area. It motivates me to write and create.
About Lila
In February 1998 I first arrived in Los Cabos and fell in love with it. San Jose Del Cabo was such a calm and peaceful place. I felt at home there. I rescued a little puppy, but in reality the puppy picked me. She saw me leave a store and came traipsing up to me, wagging her tiny tail and grinning at me happily. She was emaciated and ridden with fleas, but so happy to see me. So yes, she chose me. I named her Jesse. Then I found her sister, just as thin and dirty and I couldn’t leave her behind. I called the second one Kiki.
So, in my case, it wasn’t a man who convinced me to stay. It were two adorable mongrel puppies and a job offer, plus the beautiful surroundings, the friendly people, and the tranquility. It was impossible to leave this behind.
I did leave for a few years between 2001 and 2007, but I returned, unable to stay away. The Southern Baja is my home.
Why Would Anyone Want to Live Here?
Why not? I am not saying it is always easy. It has been hard, but I do not regret anything. Coming here and building my home on this amazing peninsula has been one of the best decisions in my life. I bought some land about 30 minutes north of Cabo San Lucas, at 3 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean. I am still building there and I am staying in a trailer until my house is built. Living out here in the middle of nowhere has taught me many things, and I would love to share them with you. Experiences, skills, insights about me, basic survival skills (yes, even that, lol), wild animals, and so on. This place is full of wonder and magic.
So, What is the Purpose of This Author Website?
Well, of course, I write books and I want to share them with the world. Writing is my passion, it is part of who I am and I cannot exist without writing. The Baja also constantly inspires me and writing comes naturally. I can, however, also help people who would like to live here and who have had similar experiences in the Baja. We can reach out. We can talk about what we learned here, give tips, know that no matter how hard it is sometimes to start from scratch in another country, it can be done and it is worth it. I have lived in four countries, I know what I’m talking about 😉
All changes are for the better, even if they require some difficulties. I hope to help people who are having a hard time moving to the Baja (or another place, country) leaving family and friends behind.
Just remember, you are making a new home, and that can be an amazing home.
